Pythium

• Symptoms are similar to infection with Rhizoctonia
• Wilting resulting in lodging
• Death of seedlings
• "damping-off"
Epidemiology:
• Cool-weather pathogen
• Grows between 41-95° F, optimum 75-86° F
• Can cause seed rot & damping-off
• Severe under extremely wet conditions & below 68° F
• Symptoms occur usually within the first week of emergence
Control:
• Seed treatments
• Avoid planting in cold, wet conditions
