Lygus Bugs

Symptoms:
• Multiple crowns on plants early infested with lygus
• Blackened, raised feeding scars on veins and petioles
• V-shaped discoloration of leaf tips spreading and becoming necrotic over time

Epidemiology:
• Adults overwinter in plant debris
• Move into sugarbeet fields from neighboring crops (alfalfa) when crop senescing or is being harvested

Description:
• Adults are 6 mm long with angular bodies of pale green to dark or reddish brown color
• 2 long antenna and noticeable, triangular plate between base of forewings

Control:
• Managing crop debris and refuge around fields
• Insecticide applications, if needed
