Black Bean Aphids

• Colonies of black winged and wingless aphids on the underside of leaves
• Excessive feeding damage can cause wrinkling, curling of the leaf, eventually death of tissue
• Honeydew can cover leaf with shiny, sticky layer
Epidemiology:
• Overwinter as eggs on shrubs
• Migrate to sugarbeets late spring, early summer
• Favored by dry, warm conditions (below 82° F)
• High reproduction rate allows for multiple generations per year
Description:
• 1.5-3.2 mm long, tear-drop shaped bodies of dull black to black-green color
• May or may not have transparent wings
